Johnathan McCormick

I am a husband, father of 5 children, love the outdoors, and I love great conversations. I am the host of the RedBeard Outdoors podcast where I talk about gear and share conversations I get to have around the topics of Faith, Family, Fitness, and the Outdoors.

What’s going through your head as you lay in bed the night before … a hunt, a fishing trip, a ride?:

The night before a hunt, I am running through my gear list and making sure I have everything, picturing the arrow going through the hide of the animal as I place a well earned shot in the best place possible on the animal.

What motivates you to do what you do?:

I am motivated by creating great relationships with people as I strive to inspire people to want a happier, healthier, more successful life. I am also motivated by my loved ones and wanting to set the best example for them as we go through our lives here on earth.

How do you step your game up year after year?:

I strive to get to know my gear better and to train more efficiently year after year. From upping my brain game to the physical game, I strive to get better each day.

What would you identify as a quality you possess that makes you stand out amongst your peers?:

I am a ginger...

But really I enjoy learning from others and highlighting strengths that each individual has. That comes through asking questions and being present during conversations.

If you could improve one aspect of what you do, what would it be and why?:

I would get better at operating a camera and learn how to take awesome still photos.

If you could only listen to one music album the rest of your life, what would it be?:

Currently my favorite music (according to Spotify) is NF and the album I listened to most would be HOPE.

Past, present, or future: who is one person you would sit down with for a full course meal and why?:

I have had the pleasure of speaking with some amazing individuals and have many more conversations planned. I love learning from history but I feel I would choose to sit down and have a full course meal/conversation with Sal Frisella.

Is a hotdog a sandwich?:

Never thought about this before...but I would say no, simply for the fact that the bread is stuck together, not two separate pieces.

Who has had the biggest influence on your life and why?:

I have had many great men that have had a great influence on my life. I feel as though I have pulled from each of their examples as I form my own self. The greatest example for me (cheesy as it may be) is Christ. His love for his fellow men and constant search for knowledge inspires me to serve and be present daily.

What is your most favorite smell?:

A good camp fire

What is the best book you have read?:

I have read a lot of books I love, but I really like Extreme Ownership and Start with WHY. If I had to choose only one, it would be Extreme Ownership.

Would you rather be the smartest person or the funniest person?:

Smartest, but not in a cocky way to where I tell everyone, I would just want to help everyone with that knowledge.

Your go to favorite meal?:

My favorite meal is a good elk steak w/ a baked potato and fresh salad with ranch.

How would you explain what Canvas Cutter represents?:

Canvas Cutter, as a product, represents the best way to sleep when on the road, hunting, or simply camping. As a brand, it represents the classic American desire to explore and get outdoors. The canvas is classic and drives people to enjoy the outdoors even more! Canvas is definitely something people relate to cowboys, pioneers, and adventurers that explored the unknown. Canvas Cutter = Adventure

What is your favorite Canvas Cutter product and why?:

As of right now I love the Dominator. That was my favorite sleep setup all last year!

What is something people would never guess just by looking at you?:

I am fluent in spanish 🙂
