I'm hell when I'm well, and I'm seldom sick.
Husband, father of three, and passionate outdoorsman. I spend all of my free time hunting, fly fishing, and riding my horses in the backcountry.
What’s going through your head as you lay in bed the night before … a hunt, a fishing trip, a ride?:
Logistics. I'm running checklists in my head to ensure I've packed everything I need. I'm also thinking of maps, terrain, and routes.
What motivates you to do what you do?:
Adventure. It drives everything I do.
How do you step your game up year after year?:
I'm always looking to improve. Whether that's a new hunt or fishing trip, a new location, a new species, or simply improving upon last year's efforts.
What would you identify as a quality you possess that makes you stand out amongst your peers?:
I live my life by this quote and it permeates me to my soul... "I will persist until I succeed.
I was not delivered unto this world in defeat, nor does failure course in my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd. I am a lion and I refuse to talk, to walk, to sleep with the sheep. I will hear not those who weep and complain, for their disease is contagious. Let them join the sheep. The slaughterhouse of failure is not my destiny. I will persist until I succeed"
If you could improve one aspect of what you do, what would it be and why?:
It would be having more time in the field. Giving yourself enough time in the field is critical to being successful.
If you could only listen to one music album the rest of your life, what would it be?:
Impossible.
Past, present, or future: who is one person you would sit down with for a full course meal and why?:
George Washington. Primarily because he's one of the most important figures in history, but also because I'd love to see how he would accomplish eating with the horrendous contraption of fake teeth he used.
Is a hotdog a sandwich?:
A hot dog is a class of its own.
Who has had the biggest influence on your life and why?:
My dad. For all the things I like about him, and all the things I don't.
What is your most favorite smell?:
I love the smell of sagebrush or pine trees after a light rain. I'm also one of those weirdos that likes the faint whiff of a dead skunk.
What is the best book you have read?:
For fun, anything by Louis L'Amour. Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink is a powerful book for life and business.
Would you rather be the smartest person or the funniest person?:
Smart enough to know when I'm not the smartest one in the room. Funny enough to laugh at myself.
Your go to favorite meal?:
I think these are two different things. My favorite meal is steak and lobster (or crab). My go-to meal, is a fried egg sandwich. I've been making those for myself since junior high. My dad and I have a special trick that make them unbeatable.
How would you explain what Canvas Cutter represents?:
Canvas Cutter to me is a brand that provides quality outdoor gear with an appreciation for the American West.
What is your favorite Canvas Cutter product and why?:
Right now the cantle bag. It's a great design. I appreciate how the pockets are laid out, and the various technical features included, while blending that with a old west aesthetic.
What is something people would never guess just by looking at you?:
I used to run an art gallery, and sold artwork from "the Masters", i.e., Picasso, Renoir, Chagall etc.
